An air carrier of Lufthansa that was travelling from Tel Aviv to Munich was compelled to opt for an emergency landing at Sofia Airport in Bulgaria on Tuesday night owing to the smell of smoke in the cabin.
The Airbus landed safely as reported by the Israeli media.
Later the passengers and crew were all evacuated from the plane. Thereafter, technicians started checking the aircraft. An affiliate of Lufthansa, Lufthansa Technik has a large service hangar at Sofia Airport.
Passengers had to spend the night in Sofia on account of the abrupt landing.
Lufthansa provided the accommodation to those passengers. Then the airline apologized to them and mentioned that safety was their topmost priority.
On Wednesday morning, the passengers are scheduled to board an alternative flight to Munich. Since Lufthansa does not offer any regular Sofia – Munich flight today, they might be sending another airplane to pick them up.
On board airplanes the smell of smoke has been the first sign of catastrophes that had taken the lives of many.
