The flight was headed from Philadelphia to Albany, New York at the time. The plane was about 30 miles from Avoca when the crew announced an emergency and asked to land.
As soon as U.S. Airways Express flight 4394 was on the ground, it was surrounded by emergency crews as airport officials didn’t want to take any chances.
“We brought in some outside help, ambulances and fire trucks. It is a commercial carrier with that many people on board, better to be safe than sorry,” airport director Barry Centini said. There were a total of 15 people on the plane.
Of the 15 on board 12 were passengers: ten adults and two small children. There were three crew members. No one was injured.
