Flight EK0863 from Muscat was grounded after one of the staffs of the baggage handling section found the serpent before it was due to depart as a spokeswoman said in a statement. Engineering and cleaning teams were working to clear the aircraft to re-enter service and apologised for the service. The aircraft was searched before re-entering service and arriving at its destination several hours later. The airline did not specifically confirm the species of the snake or whether it was a poisonous one.
Social media took the instance in literary comparison and sited how 2006 Samuel L Jackson thriller Snakes on a Plane just got real!
Last year November a similar panic was caused in a Mexico domestic flight when a metre-long snake was seen hanging from the overhead compartments. A 10ft (3m) scrub python was spotted clinging on to the wing as a plane made its way between the Australian town of Cairns and Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea in 2013.
