To boost the country’s Tourism Industry, the national Projects Appraisal Committee will, soon submit a project proposal worth more than $11 million, to the EIF Board after the signing of a project document. The project proposal, which comes under the Tier 2 of the Solomon Islands Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) project, will seek funding from EIF Global Trust Fund to boost some of the country’s tourism activities.
The signing of the project proposal means that the proposal will now be finally submitted to the EIF Board, which is based in Geneva. From there it will be up to the EIF Board to decide on the next stage of the project.
Over the past few months, the EIF National Implementation Unit (NIU) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade has been hard at work incorporating comments from various stakeholders who are involved in the project. With the comments now being finally incorporated, the project proposal was finally endorsed by the Appraisal Committee, which was constituted by National Trade Development Council (NTDC).
The appraisal committee consists of the Donor Facilitator representative European Union Ambassador Eoghan Walsh, EIF Focal Point and Director of External Trade Department, Barrett Salato, Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Labour and Immigration – Director of Marketing and Export, Cornelius Donga, Ministry of Culture and Tourism – Savita Nandan, MCT, Private Sector –Ethel Saelea (SIWIBA).
