Al Shabaab suicide car-bomber hit the gate of Hotel Ambassador in Mogadishu, the capital of Somali, on 1st June, Wednesday. The car-bombing attack was followed by several rounds of gunfire. Police informed that the impact killed 15 people at least, including two lawmakers.
Police officer, Major Ibrahim Hassan informed, “Many other people including lawmakers were rescued. The operation is about to end now. So far the death toll we have is 15 dead and 20 others wounded.”
Al Shabaab, which is affiliated with Al Qaeda, already claimed the responsibility for killing more than 15. The claim has not been verified yet by the officials.
“We targeted the members of the apostate government. We killed many of them inside and we shall give details later. Our mujahideen are on the top floor of the hotel building,” military operation spokesperson of al Shabaab, Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab commented.
The hotel was targeted as several government officials and lawmakers choose to live there during their trip in Mogadishu.
The state-run radio of Mogadishu informed that the police forces are still rescuing guests from the hotel.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud stated, “I send condolences to the relatives of lawmakers Abdullahi Jamac and Mohamud Mohamed and likewise to the relatives of all those martyred in the barbaric attack. These barbaric attacks are aimed to frighten citizens so that they do not support governance and peace and that will never happen.”
It is feared that the death toll caused by the car-bomb attack on Hotel Ambassador, may rise furthermore. Dying in a hotel, during a vacation, does not seem like a good way to go.
