Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island gets into the holiday spirit with seasonal events and competitions, as well as a holiday package, this November and December. From a Festival of Trees to holiday cookie and gingerbread house competitions, the resort offers a variety of activities for individuals of all ages. Plus, the resort will offer a holiday rate of $139* for accommodations booked from Dec. 20 through Jan. 5.
Events scheduled include:
Holiday Cookie Competition
Friday, Nov. 15 through Thursday, Dec. 5
The inaugural Holiday Cookie Competition is open to all local residents and categories include amateur and professional. To enter the competition, individuals must submit their cookie recipe at the resort’s front desk. Submissions must include contact information and whether the entry is for the amateur or professional category. The winner will be selected on December 5th and will receive dinner for four at Heyward’s Restaurant, a feature on the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island Facebook page, and will have their recipe and cookie featured in Heyward’s Restaurant during the holidays.
Official Resort Lighting Ceremony
Friday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m.
The resort officially kicks off the holiday season when it turns on its exterior holiday lights throughout the resort. Guests and local residents will enjoy the holiday camaraderie.
Toys for Tots
Thursday, Nov. 21 through Thursday, Dec. 12
The resort will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for “Toys for Tots.” Donations will be accepted through Thursday, December 12th, and can be dropped off at the resort’s front desk. Individuals that donate to the “Toys for Tots” collection will receive a $10 gift certificate for the resort for use at any of its outlets/venues (Certificate expires Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013.)
Festival of Trees
Sunday, Nov. 24 through Thursday, Dec. 5
A long-standing tradition on the island, the annual Festival of Trees fundraiser features donated and decorated pine trees from area organizations and businesses. During the festival, decorated trees will be on display within the lobby of the resort and visitors will have the opportunity to bid on their favorite tree. The highest bidder for each tree will be notified on December 5th and the tree becomes theirs to celebrate with for the holidays. All proceeds from the Festival of Trees benefit the Hilton Head Preparatory School.
Thanksgiving Day Champagne Brunch
Thursday, Nov. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The buffet brunch features carving stations, made-to-order omelets, a children’s buffet, soups, salads and desserts. The brunch is available for $49.95 for adults (13 years and older), $22 for children (ages 6 to 12), $7.95 (ages 2 to 5) and complimentary for children under 2 years of age with a paying adult. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 843-842-2400.
Brunch with Santa
Sunday, Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Guests can enjoy brunch with Santa each Sunday in December at Heyward’s Restaurant and Seacrest Terrace and Patio. A photographer will be on hand to capture digital photos. The cost of brunch with Santa is $35.95 for adults, $15.95 (ages 8 to 12), $8.95 (ages 4 to 7), and complimentary for children under the age of 4 with paying adult. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 843-842-2400.
Elf on the Shelf Promotion
Sunday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 15
The resort hosts an “Elf on the Shelf” virtual event exclusively for its Facebook fans. Fans of the resort’s page (www.facebook.com/SonestaHiltonHeadIsland) are encouraged to locate where the Sonesta Elf is hiding each day. They will need to “Like” the day’s post and post where they think the Elf is located on the resort in the comments’ section. One correct answer will be chosen daily, with all 15 daily winners becoming eligible for the grand prize of a two-night stay at the resort. The grand prize winner will be randomly selected from the 15 daily winners and announced on the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island Facebook page on Monday, December 16th.
Daily throughout December from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Bayley’s Bar & Terrace offers a daily happy hour throughout December with Irish coffee and hot chocolate available to guests.
Entertainment, Music and Carolers
Dec. 2 through Dec. 4, Dec. 10 through Dec. 13, and Dec. 20
During select evenings in December, area schools and churches, as well as the Jazz Corner performers, will be on hand to sing carols and provide entertainment to resort guests and local residents. Performances are scheduled from 6 to 6:45 p.m. and will take place in the lobby.
Amateur Gingerbread House Competition
Thursday, Dec. 5, through Monday, Dec. 23
The inaugural competition is open to individuals of all ages and asks local residents to create their own seasonally inspired gingerbread house. Entries will be accepted beginning December 5th and winners will be announced on Friday, December 20th. Entrants will be able to pickup their house on December 23rd. Prizes include gift certificates to Arum Spa, brunch for two and accommodations at the resort.
Cooking Lessons with the Chef
Saturday, Dec. 7, 14 and 21
The resort invites would-be chefs to expand their culinary repertoire with special recipes from Chef Nelly Buleje. Participants will create a three-course menu, and will learn to pair it with spirits and wines. Reservations can be made by calling Heyward’s Restaurant at 843-842-2400 ext. 7650. Classes are limited to 20 people per class. Cost is $25 per class. Must be 21 years of age to participate.
