South African Tourism Speed Marketing Ready To Give Limpopo Tourism Products The Edge

Published on : Thursday, November 9, 2017

unnamedLimpopo tourism businesses from across the spectrum have the chance to show off their finery this week when South African Tourism will host one of its popular speed marketing sessions in the home of the Mapungubwe kingdom and the majestic Boabab trees. The sessions are well received by local product owners as they appreciated the opportunity to introduce and market their businesses in this lively and interactive manner where new relationships are established, existing ones are strengthened some possibly sign off on future business agreements.

These sessions, which have become a regular and increasingly popular fixture in that they give product owners direct access to travel buyers in a dynamic yet controlled environment, are presented by South African Tourism in partnership with the Southern Africa Tourism Services Association (SATSA) and Limpopo Tourisms Agency (LTA). The Limpopo leg of the Speed Marketing Tour is taking place from Thursday the 9th to Saturday the 11th of November 2017.

If the last speed marketing session in Mpumalanga is any indication, the new session format is a hit. The day saw 30 of Mpumalanga tourism products with different offerings being connected with local hosted tour operators and travel agents during a fast-paced, impactful and productive speed marketing session.

The speed marketing session kicked off early, with members of the trade working their way through rows of tables to hear what the each of the products had to offer in a controlled time frame of eight minutes per business, before moving on to the next table.

With its charming landscape and variety of experiences, Mpumalanga’s product range was indeed an easy sell. From Mbombela’s intimate lodges that look out on to the Lowveld National Botanical Garden and exclusive guesthouses situated in the rainforest near the famous mining town of Pilgrim’s Rest to enchanting resorts on the banks of the Olifants River or Sabie River Valley, and accommodation establishments on the doorstep of the Kruger National Park – the session saw a cross-section of accommodation and activities on vivid display. Well-known hotel brands were also in attendance.

But perhaps most heartening for South African Tourism was to see previous Lilizela Tourism Award winners, including small businesses that have been rewarded for the excellence of their offering, working the speed marketing floor.

“Local SMMEs play a pivotal role in all sectors, including tourism. Their contribution to job creation, alleviating poverty and enriching the range of our tourism offering is why we must continue to provide them with the support they need to market and grow their businesses,” explained the Chief Executive Officer of South African Tourism, Sisa Ntshona.

The speed marketing partnership between South African Tourism and SATSA is an example of the private sector and government working together to this end, he added. “We need to pair like-minded industry players with each other and maximise their exposure, so we can diversify our tourism offering for the benefit of the industry as a whole. The growth and sustainability of these products relies on innovative solutions such as these speed marketing sessions,” said Ntshona.

Next stop for the Speed Marketing Session will be held in the North West Province on 22nd November 2017, just north of the country’s capital at Harties Cable Way and on the 23rd November 2017, at the five star-graded Royal Marang Hotel.
