Travelers from Indonesia, Southeast Asia and Japan are gradually increasing after a Chinese boycott and prohibition on “zero-dollar” package tours left some of the top Korean market and shopping areas vacant. Last month on a bonus trip, more than 1,154 employees of an Indonesian cosmetics retailer visited Korea with an immediate following by around 100 staff of a consumer products retailer from the same country.
One company staff said, “Our staff strongly supported Korea as the destination of their incentive tour. They’re interested in Korean pop culture, and economic ties between Korea and Indonesia are growing closer as well.”
As per Sky Scanner, which compares the cost of traveling to different parts of the world, in 2016, Seoul saw the maximum growth among destinations searched by Indonesian travelers. Jeju Island and Seoul was ranked first and third among the travelers from the Philippines. To quote a staffer, ‘’ If visa waivers and other measures make it easier to travel to Korea, the number of tourists from those countries will increase even more.”
More than 565, 000 Chinese tourists entered Korea this January according to the statistics of KTO which is tantamount to 46.3 percent increase in foreign visitors. Tourists from Malaysia and Vietnam accounted a quarter.
