Chinese Travellers with UnionPayFollowing Australia and Singapore, South Korea becomes the third overseas country that provides Chinese visa application express service for local UnionPay cardholders. On December 22, 2015, UnionPay International announced that it and Chinese Visa Application Service Center have jointly set up VIP counters for UnionPay cards (card number starting with 62) holders at four visa application centers in Seoul (2 centers), Busan and Gwangju in South Korea. UnionPay cardholders can also get 50% cash refund when paying the service fee with UnionPay cards.

Currently, more than 50 million UnionPay cards have been issued accumulatively in over 40 countries and regions overseas. UnionPay is now the only international card association that offers Chinese visa application express service. Previously, the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Singapore has set up UnionPay VIP counter and the Chinese Visa Application Service Centers in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, and Perth in Australia have also provided UnionPay cardholders with exclusive services.

This exclusive service has enjoyed great popularity among overseas cardholders since its launching. Du Yuwen, an Australian Chinese, said he had been using UnionPay cards issued by Bank of China (Australia) for a long time, and now he was offered a pleasant surprise when applying for Chinese visa: “It is not only very convenient but also warms my heart when I saw the tip reminding UnionPay cardholders to get a VIP queuing number for the express channel.” He also said that he would recommend UnionPay cards to his Australian friends, so that they could also enjoy this considerate service.

Meeting the actual demands of the local cardholders in South Korea, UnionPay International chose this market as the third overseas country to launch this service. Last year, the number of visits between South Korea and China has reached 10 million for the first time, making South Korea and China the largest tourist source country of each other. It is also true regarding the number of exchange students. Meanwhile, with an accumulation of over 16 million UnionPay cards issued in South Korea, UnionPay not only provides the local cardholders with convenient payment services in their daily consumption and overseas travels but also offers various value-added privileges covering every aspect of their travels.

Now UnionPay International set up UnionPay VIP counters at four Chinese Visa Application Service Centers in South Korea. Korean residents may get a queuing number for the VIP counter upon presenting their UnionPay cards issued locally, and summit their files at the VIP counter. Visa application fee may also be paid directly with UnionPay card, and when paying with UnionPay travel card issued by Woori Card, cardholders can get exclusive 50% cash refund: the issuer will only deduct 50% of the visa application fee after the cardholder pays in full amount at the visa application center.

A comprehensive online-offline UnionPay card service system has taken shape in South Korea. Almost all merchants accepting signature payments accept UnionPay credit cards and about 1.43 million merchants accept UnionPay cards for PIN payments. Doota Mall and all GS25 convenience stores as well as all Watsons in South Korea accept UnionPay QuickPass. In addition, all major institutions in South Korea have issued UnionPay cards, which have been frequently used in over 70 countries and regions including the Chinese Mainland and Japan.

Meanwhile, UnionPay International has taken multiple measures to simplify the visa application process for the Chinese cardholders. Cardholders can pay visa application fees online with UnionPay cards at the electric visa application website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey; UnionPay high-end card holders can use their UnionPay cards instead of bank statements, wage certificates and incumbency certification to apply for New Zealand’s individual visa in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou; UnionPay diamond card holders can enjoy free express service when applying for British individual visa in the aforementioned three cities, reducing the processing time to 3-5 working days. Moreover, residents from cities with travel access to Taiwan can directly apply for a Taiwan Entry Permit at designated travel agencies by taking electronically scanned copies of UnionPay gold cards and higher-end credit cards as asset certificate.
