South West Trains confirms plans for new station car park at Andover

South West TrainsSouth West Trains has confirmed that Andover will be the first station to benefit from a multi million pound investment in station car parks.

Work will start on a new car park in early October, creating an additional 200 spaces for passengers using the Hampshire station. The new car park will offer improved security with extra CCTV cameras, and a customer help-point.

Earlier this year, South West Trains announced that it would be investing £50 million in customer improvements across the network as part of an agreement with the Department for Transport. This significant investment will see around 1400 extra car parking spaces introduced across eight key stations.

Andover will be the first station to benefit from the investment programme. The new car park is planned to open ready in Spring 2016. Whilst construction work takes place, the existing car park will be closed. South West Trains has carried out an extensive information campaign advising passengers of alternative arrangements during the works.

Further information can be found at or by dropping in at the station. A special drop-in session will be held at the station on Tuesday 28 July from 17.00-20.00 in the Booking Hall at Andover station, and members of the car parking project team will be available to answer any questions.

Cycle parking at the station will not be affected. As a result of partnership working with Test Valley Borough Council, the parking restrictions along Station Approach and the Avenue will be lifted whilst the car park is closed, and short term parking will be available on these roads (for a maximum of two hours) as well as meet and greet and drop-offs.

Alistair Wright, Head of Station Property for South West Trains, said: “We’re making huge investment in our car parks over the next two years that will deliver major benefits for our customers.

“With over a million passengers now using Andover station every year, it’s vital that there is enough space for people to park. Improving the car parking capacity at Andover has been a key priority for us and we are pleased it will be the first station to benefit from our major improvement programme.”

Test Valley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Planning and Transport, Councillor Martin Hatley, said: “The new car park at the station will enhance the area and make it easier for residents, commuters and visitors to travel to and from Andover. We are working closely with South West Trains to ensure that minimal disruption is caused while the work is being carried out and we look forward to having an excellent, much needed, new car parking facility in Andover.”
