For the 6th annual Travel South USA International Showcase, Charleston was the city to organize the event. All the officials of tourism and suppliers from 12 Southeastern states are preparing their pitches at the Charleston Area Convention Center.
The program also had tour plan of Charleston and trips to various sites that travel agents might pitch to the clients. Majority of the tourists stayed at the Francis Marion Hotel and boarded bus to the convention center in North Charleston and back.
The event started on Monday at the convention center started and concluded on Wednesday. It had many trips to different tourist spots in the Carolinas and Georgia.
Travel South USA wasn’t like Comdex, with big exhibitions and snazzy attractions. As an alternative, visitors who made appointments before sat quietly at tables with suppliers.
“They’re not just getting information,” said Liz Bittner of Atlanta, Travel South USA’s executive director. “They’re actually lining up tours.”
Jane Knight was accompanying Charleston Tea Plantation at a table near the representatives of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau on Tuesday morning. She observed that the countries represented in her upcoming appointments — Italy, Netherlands, France, India, Ireland, United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, South Africa, Australia, Canada, China.
