Southwest Airlines will expand its flight service from Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) to four destinations effective April 8, 2014. Southwest will add one daily nonstop flight each to Denver, San Diego, Seattle and Orange County as the carrier responds to strong passenger bookings from Silicon Valley travelers.
The added frequency brings the daily flight schedule to Denver to four, 10 daily flights to San Diego, three to Seattle and nine to Orange County.
“It’s extremely good news that Mineta San José International Airport’s largest carrier is growing its operation here, providing more options for travelers going to Denver, San Diego, Seattle and Orange County, or making a connection through one of these cities to its vast domestic and international network,” said Director of Aviation Kim Becker Aguirre. She continued, “Southwest Airlines recognizes that passengers are choosing SJC for its convenience to their business or home in Silicon Valley. Also, travelers have certainty that SJC flights will arrive and depart on time thanks to our excellent weather year-round.”
“These new nonstop markets build on the commitment Southwest made to our Bay Area Customers from our first San Jose flights twenty years ago,” said Robert Alderete, Southwest Airlines’ San Jose Station Leader. “We’re strengthening our presence in these important cities in the West and travelers win with our Low Fares and Legendary Customer Service.”
Southwest Airlines currently offers 70 nonstop departures per day from Silicon Valley to 12 cities, which also include Austin, Burbank, Chicago (Midway), Las Vegas, Los Angeles (LAX), Ontario,
Phoenix and Portland. The carrier operates from seven gates in Terminal B, and creates jobs for approximately 230 people at SJC.
