An increasing number of tourists visiting Dalyan, a popular tourist locale in the southwestern province of Muğla are choosing to be a part of ‘blue crab tours’ in which they can learn, catch and then also release blue crabs.
Dalyan is enriched with the beautiful İztuzu Beach.
This beach was once chosen as the best open-air field in Europe by the readers of a popular magazine way back in the year 2008. This is the region where blue crabs and also the spectacular sea end up drawing the attention of a large number of tourists.
By participating in boat tours, the tourists in Dalyan are able to catch sight of the interesting rock tombs and caretta cerattas and also hunt blue crabs.
A tourism official, Özay Akdoğan who has been in the industry for 26 years said that they had hosted about one million local and foreign tourists annually around the Dalyan and Köyceğiz canals. He went on to add that Russian tourists returning to Turkey this year after they were away for quite a long period on account of a diplomatic crisis between Moscow and Ankara are also thrilled about the concept of blue crab hunting in the area around İztuzu Beach.
He said that they had diversified tourism in this area with the Köyceğiz Lake as well as the mud baths and the ancient city of Kaunos.
But then, he specified that of late, the blue crab hunting tours have emerged as the most popular tourism attraction. He also feels that the region has witnessed a noticeable increase in the number of Ukrainian and Russian tourists heading to Dalyan from nearby Marmaris.
