Reyes Marota, industry and tourism minister stated that the number of international visitors to Spain hit an all-time high of 83.7 million last year in a seventh consecutive year of records.

It was found that the tourist arrivals rose 1% last year from a year earlier. Spain’s tourism is crucial for the domestic economy and make up nearly 12% of the gross domestic product and is the world’s second-most visited country after France.

Without providing any specific forecast she went on saying that they are addressing 2020 with optimism as they have a string and consolidated sector which is capable of tackling the challenges ahead of them.

Although Britain and Germany have been traditionally the core of Spanish tourism  but last year more visitors coming from Asia and the United States offset a decline of travellers from the region.

Trying to lure visitors from new countries will be one of the ministry’s main priorities along with working to  have visitors all year long and not only during the summer high season.

Recently FITUR, the largest tourism fair in Spain concluded. It has 165 countries participating in the show between 22 to 26 January.
