Spain perches itself at the top position among the global event and incentive destinations as per Pacific World which is a event management company. Convention bureaus in major cities like Barcelona, Tenerife and Seville used strategies to target MICE audiences, which propelled Spain to the number one rank.
As per Patricia Silvio, global marketing manager of Pacific World, China, Indonesia and Singapore follow Spain in the world-wide list.
Indonesia’s government is investing in destinations like Bali and Lombok and developing new ones to drive MICE segment. China’s most-sought-after destinations are becoming more accessible due to increasing number of international and regional airlines. In Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), other top countries are France, UK, Italy and Monaco/South of France.
The worldwide top 10 most demanded destinations 2019 include Spain, Thailand, China, Indonesia, Singapore, Peru, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, South Korea and Indochina.
The top 5 most demanded destinations 2019 in EMEA are Spain, U.K., France, Italy, and UAE & Monaco (tied).
The top 5 most demanded destinations 2019 in Asia are Thailand, China, Indonesia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Peru ranks sixth in the world-wide list. The opening of a new convention centre in Lima in 2015 was a game-changer in that the city is now able to host large-scale events. They are targeting MICE planners in the US.
Silvio added: “It’s no coincidence that the destinations that top our list all have strong convention bureaux and a clear destination development strategy, as well as modern infrastructures and convenient access. We are also excited about some of the up-and-comers on the list – like Peru and Monaco – which have made major investments.”
The Paris region now is backed by a euro 23 million investment plan to boost France as both a tourist and MICE destination.
