This flight was scheduled to depart around 5.55 p.m.
But, a bird strike shad compelled the airplane to be delayed for four hours before it eventually took off just prior to 10 p.m.
However, the plane was several minutes into its flight when suddenly the passengers reported ‘smelling smoke’ before they heard the explosion from the right engine. One of the passengers exclaimed about her terror on hearing a very big bang while on board the flight.
A video footage of the dramatic moment when sparks were shown to be flying past a passenger’s window as the aircraft returned to Schipol airport for making an emergency landing.
Another passenger told the media that there has been a large explosion sound and it suddenly went silent.
The person added that it almost seemed that fire was coming out from the right engine of the plane. The plane soon afterwards started losing balance and air pressure. To make matters worse, the air masks did not stop.
British Airways however denied that there was any fire.
A spokeswoman of the airliner mentioned that their highly skilled pilots then decided to return to Amsterdam following take-off after it reported a technical issue with one of its engines.
She went on to add that British Airways would be sending over a team of specialist engineers to repair the airplane.
