Faiyaz Koya, the Tourism Minister at a recent interview with this newspaper explained that Fiji’s growing sports tourism portion out of Australia and New Zealand would also be an important area to look for in the year 2017/2018 financial year respectively.
Fiji International would be a significant sporting event to be organized in Fiji at the later part of this year which will bring professional golfers and sporting enthusiasts across the globe at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course.
To quote Mr Koya, “The Fiji International is the region’s largest international sporting event that provides Fiji the golden opportunity to further expand its horizons on to the world stage.’’
Besides, the recent expansion of the event after a landmark agreement to include the Asian Tour as a new tri-sanctioning partner next to the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and the European Tour would be yet another accomplishment of Fiji’s sports tourism.
To quote Koya, “Asia is a key tourism market for Fiji, so to extend our relationship through the Fiji International and the tri-sanctioning by the Asian Tour is another landmark achievement for the tournament and country,” Mr Koya said. The tournament is broadcasted to millions of viewers across the world and is an unprecedented opportunity to showcase our world class assets to a global audience.’’
