Sri Lanka’s President said that “99 percent” of the remaining suspects in the Easter attacks on churches and hotels have been arrested, and the country is now safe for tourists.
“The country is in a safe position right now,” President Maithripala Sirisena said in an interview recently.
“Our intelligence divisions have identified how many terrorists are there and 99 percent of them have been arrested. One or two may have been left and they too will be arrested,” he added.
Sri Lanka Tourism Minister H Amartunga said that the country’s government is in touch with intelligence agencies regularly for ensuring that the island nation is completely safe for tourists. He added that travel advisories issued after the recent terror attacks would be withdrawn soon.
For ramping up Indian outbound tourists to Sri Lanka, the country’s tourism department in collaboration with SriLankan Airlines, The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka and inbound tour operators has brought in attractive packages that are especially targeted towards Indian travelers and to revive the industry that suffered a setback due to the blasts.
