The Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Lands and also the Sri Lanka Tourism Club that is a government-approved group of industry leaders would support this initiative of the private sector.
According to a statement, about five to eight ‘Themed International Tourism and Family Entertainment Zones’ are being decided to be built in a state-owned land that would be selected for their charming natural splendor. They include forest areas, mountains and beaches, all spread out over an area exceeding 1,500 acres.
The Asia Hotel and Tourism Investment Conference or AHTIC event in Colombo would witness the unveiling of the plans.
The event would be conducted during the month of November. Bench Events would be organizing this event.
Dr. Prabath C. Ukwatte said that they would be collaborating with the government ministries to come up with brand new family entertainment zones and to open them up for the purpose of foreign investment. He added that the conference would go a long way in explaining to the tourists about their tourism growth objectives and also attract international finance.
The tourism developments would comprise tourist hubs meant for family activities, adventure, yoga, wellness, eco tourism and luxury tourism.
John Amaratunga, the tourism minister said that Sri Lanka is planning to more tourist friendly zones in the future. He then went on to add that this island country is aiming to draw up to 5 million tourists within the year 2020. This is believed to generate revenue of 10 billion U.S dollars.
This implies that the number of rooms would be doubled and employment options would be created for at least 3,00,000 people.
He then said that Lanka Patuna is currently under construction and it is spread over 450 acres of beach land. It would be capable of housing about 25 to 30 luxury hotels.
