Sri Lanka receives US$ 42 million for eco-tourism promotion from World Bank

sri-lanka-tourismThe World Bank has promised to grant 42 Million US $ for the Environmental System Management and eco- friendly tourism promotion programs in Sri Lanka, the country’s Deputy Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife Sumedha G. Jayasena said.

 

She made the announcement at the District Progress Review meeting held at the Monaragala District Secretariat to prevent wild elephant threat within the Monaragala District.

 

She further said preliminary studies are being conducted in Southern and Uva regions of the Department of the Wildlife Conservation.

 

This program has been termed as ESCMP and will be launched by the Department of Wildlife Conservation within the next 03 months. One of the main programs under this would be establishment of elephant conservation zones.
