The government of Sri Lanka is making efforts to lure in a large number of European tourists. It has even appointed as a senior official tourism consultant to highlight on the European continent, as described by the officials on Thursday.
John Amaratunga who is the tourism minister said that the nation is hopeful to draw in an increased number of Europeans who are traditionally known to be good spenders with a demand for sophisticated standards. This is because many international hotels have opened in Colombo according to a popular news agency.
Amaratunga added that presently, there are many new hotels that are coming up.
This is the reason why the government of Sri Lanka seeks to strengthen its efforts to draw in the maximum number of European tourists to this country.
The tourism industry of Sri Lanks has witnessed a positive growth in the last few years. Particularly China and India are the leading sources of tourists. Europeans had once formed the mainstay of the tourism sector of the country of Sri Lanka.
In the year 2016, Sri Lanka had received more than 2 million tourists.
The government of Sri Lanka is determined to achieve a target of 4 million tourists every year within the year 2020. Amaratunga said that Sri Lanka is hopeful to attract 2.5 million tourists this year.
