Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and SriLankan Airlines will aggressively promote Sri Lanka in the Chinese market by launching the multimillion dollar success Disney epic “Monkey Kingdom” in Shanghai. The promotion will also provide free air tickets to 20 Chinese children to visit Polonnaruwa where the Monkey Kingdom was filmed.
According to the Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Rohantha Athukorala, the overall programme will be a partnership with the Shanghai Tourism a Promotion Bureau.
“We are also pursuing if there is a possibility of setting up Monkey Kingdom in the Disneyland Park which is to be set up in Shanghai in 2016. That will give a new positioning to Sri Lanka as a tourism destination,” Athukorala said.
He added, Sri Lanka is targeting 300,000 Chinese tourists by 2016 which is just 2% of the market.
Overall tourist influxes from China grew 81.1% and reached 94,585 in the first half of this year.
