The stage is all geared up for the 10-day Hornbill Festival that will start from December 1st at Kisama, the Heritage Village.

While declaring this on Thursday at a press conference at the tourism directorate here, tourism adviser H. Khehovi Yepthomi noted that in all these years the festival had gained immense popularity, drawing attention from both domestic and international tourists.

In addition to the regular events, he mentioned that a cultural troupe from Thailand would be a part of the 20th Hornbill Festival as well. Another cultural troupe from Hungary is expected to participate too.

The inaugural function would be arranged at 4 pm with Governor RN Ravi as chief host and chief minister Neiphiu Rio as host of the event.

He explained that tourism ministers from other States are expected to attend the festival also.

Following signing of an MoU with Airbnb, Yepthomi showed enough confidence that accommodation issues would be resolved.

In total, 17 major tribes and over 800 artistes will perform during the 10-day cultural extravaganza, as Task Force for Music and Arts would arrange musical events in the evenings, he added.

During the festival days at the venue, on a serious note of reports of prices being jacked up, the adviser explained that the tourism department had regulated prices of food, including fruits and vegetables, essential commodities and taxi fares.
