A well-known entertainment venue and renowned hotel located in Merrillville, in the northwest Indiana are expected to shut down the following year as they would be replaced by a luxury hotel, according to White Lodging Services Inc. White Lodging Services has been managing this property ever since the year 1985.
The roots of Star Plaza Theatre and Radisson Hotel can be traced back to the latter part of 1960’s. The brand new hotel that is scheduled to be built along with training and meeting facilities might be launched in the summer of the year 2018.
The Radisson Hotel had first opened during 1969 as the ‘Holiday Star’. It is expected to close in the month of January next year. And, the Star Plaza Theatre that houses 3,400 seats and was opened in 1979 would be shut down towards the end of April.
Bruce White, chief executive officer, said that the decision was quite a serious one. He also said that he was aware about the aesthetic significance of the property and how important it was for everyone. However, he was also certain about the positive impact that the new project would have on the tourism sector of the region. Next, he added that it would firmly launch Northwest Indiana as a premier tourist attraction, drawing more travellers and creating new job opportunities for the local people.
White Lodging Services said that had it not been for space constraints and certain structural ‘challenges’, the Star Plaza and Radisson Hotel would have been renovated instead of being demolished.
It has said that the plan for demolishing the structure would mark the beginning of a new chapter in Northwest Indiana’s hospitality industry.
