Of late, UP tourism department has requested the state government to consider the opportunity of developing a ‘cultural and tourism city’ on 1000 acres of land that was provided to Sanjay Khan, the yesteryear Bollywood actor-filmmaker company to develop a mega theme park.
Keeping in mind the fact that series of national and international conferences are organized every year in the city of Taj, has written to urging it Deputy director (tourism) Dinesh Kumar has proposed that if in case the actor fails to pay the cost of the land of Rs 600 crore by November this year, the government will look into the viability of developing a cultural and tourism city prepared with convention centre, luxury hotels, amusement park and exhibition hall among others in its place. Besides, the official urged the government to hire a consultant who would be entrusted with the responsibility to look into the economic viability of the project.
The land was acquired by the Govt. through Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) for the purpose of theme park project, along with a memorandum of understanding has also been signed between Khan’s company and the government. However, if the project fails to materialize whatsoever, a cultural city would be constructed in its place. Kumar mentioned about it in his letter director general of UP tourism.
Agra is the only place in India where three UNESCO world heritage sites are based. This has made India known as the country of Taj Mahal in foreign nations. More than 60 lakh visitors, including 7 lakh foreigners visit Taj every year.
