The September quarter International Visitor Survey (IVS) results released today show another year of double digit growth for Australia’s tourism industry and reveal its enormous contribution to our national economy.
“This is another great result for our industry, and the Australian economy, showing our export tourism industry is in a very positive place,” ATEC Managing Director, Peter Shelley said today.
“There are few industries in our economy which are measuring such fantastic year on year results, with export tourism now contributing more than $34.8 billion to Australia’s export income, a growth of 13% on the previous year.
“Clearly Australia’s export tourism industry is going from strength to strength and it is important we are not complacent, but recognise we are in a positive zone and it is time to
work hard to maximise our success.”
Mr Shelley said it was very important for the government and industry to work in partnership. Finding ways to do this is part of the agenda at today’s ATEC Meeting Place conference being held in Sydney.
“Our focus today is on Raising the Stakes, because while international demand for Australia as a tourism destination grows, we must also continue to invest in our product offering and focus on delivering quality experiences for a broad range of international visitors.
“There has never been a better time to invest in growing the number of international visitors to Australia, to maintain the momentum, and continue to build on the wonderful results we have seen today.
“Our priority must be to work in partnership with government and remove the impediments that restrict our opportunities to compete which, I believe, is a challenge our industry is ready for.”
