saudi arabiaFour security officers have been killed at one of Islam’s holiest sites in the Saudi city of Medina by a suicide bomber. Five other people have been injured.

According to the interior ministry’s statement, the bomber detonated his explosives after being stopped outside the Prophet’s Mosque. This mosque is the burial place of the Prophet Muhammad and after Mecca, Medina is considered as the second-holiest city in Islam. Suicide blasts also struck two other Saudi cities. Terror attacks have been in news right from the beginning of this month. The fact that this bombing took place at Medina is likely to leave Muslims around the world aghast. The bombing is likely to be by an ISIS agent.

Another reporting of the same incident said that the bomber had targeted the security officers by pretending he wanted to break his Ramadan fast with them. Many thought, after the bomb blast that it was the sound of a cannon fire which marked the breaking of fast.

Saudi Arabia has been the target of attacks by IS over the past two years. A suspected suicide bomber also died after detonating a device near the US consulate in the city of Jeddah earlier this week.
