Survey & workshop building business preparedness for tourism

Bundaberg Tourism is constantly building business preparedness by requesting all local tourism businesses to complete a survey and take part in a CrisisReady workshop.

The local tourism body, in affiliation with the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) and EarthCheck, is entrusted with the responsibility to understand the present danger of the region.

Also, it will earmark the opportunities for in terms of training as well as support to set up and strengthen tourism’s receptiveness to crisis.

Bundaberg Tourism’s CEO, Katherine Reid explained that the survey and workshop will help in building a sustainable and resilient region.

“This project is about shifting businesses mindsets from coping with the consequences of risk, toward a culture of continuous disaster resilience and risk preparedness,” she said.
“We are grateful for the support of the Queensland Tourism Industry Council in delivering this opportunity for the Bundaberg Region.”

The CrisisReady workshop, an interactive crash course for tourism operators, will provide them with a summary and easy to implement policies and business planning activities prior to, during, and after a crisis strikes.

Also, during the workshop, the new CrisisReady App for business will be introduced, transforming an individual’s smartphone into a disaster management headquarter.
QTIC Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind considers that preparation is the key to build tourism preparedness.

“We can never foresee with certainty what challenges lie ahead but we can be very certain that the next crisis will come,” he said.

“We also know, especially in Queensland, that the more we are prepared, the easier it will be to respond and recover.

“Working together with all the expertise we can muster is the only way to manage a successful tourism future.”
