Manchester Airport authorities had to evacuate hundreds of passengers and staff members from the Terminal 2 of the airport for almost three hours as an unattended package was discovered inside the departure area.
The suspicious bag was discovered to be unattended for a long time in the drop-off area near the airport car parking space. The police immediately blocked the road beside the terminal from all the vehicles.
One of the Manchester Airport spokesperson informed, “Upon finding an unattended bag, an area outside terminal two was cordoned off as a precautionary measure. Following a thorough investigation, the bag has been cleared as a posing no threat and the process of reopening the terminal is underway. As always, the safety and security of our passengers and staff is paramount, and we appreciate the patience of those affected tonight.”
Greater Manchester Police Superintendent, Mark Kenny informed that due to the circumstances, it was appropriate to evacuate the terminal to ensure the safety of staff and the public. He also added that they contained the situation and dealt with the suspicious bag as quickly as possible to ensure minimal disruption to the airport and the public.
All the passengers were waiting outside the terminal building for their flights. But the passengers were reported to be following the instructions of the airport authorities calmly. Some of the passengers were also told to stay away from glass.
One of the Manchester Airport spokesman stated that the incident did not affect the air-side operations and the flights were being operated normally.
