It has been quite clear now that tourism can help a particular place, destination, and its environment along with the local communities. Simultaneously, it has the possibility to disgrace and destroy a destination. As we all know by now that ecotourism is one such significant tool that can preserve and develop the life quality for the locals. Kelly S Bricker finds different techniques to utilize the growing economic power of tourism in a positive way and bring change.
This visit of Kelly S Bricker was truly special out of her many visits to this country previously. To quote Bricker who was in New Delhi recently, “2017 is the year of the U.S.-India Travel and Tourism Partnership and also the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. So The US Consulate has brought me to speak with universities, forest and tourism departments, schools, eco-tourism stakeholders in India on the development of this sector, and discuss opportunities to promote sustainable tourism globally.”
It is crucial to look after the assets that help ecotourism to sustain as the insight on sustainable tourism and ecotourism is gradually changing with time. We should remain responsible for the natural cultural heritage we have and how to preserve and protect them from destruction. To quote her, “from setting up principles and following them, it’s time for us to take action and get into measuring water, waste and electricity and how to minimise our footprint in a destination and maximise its benefits. It’s time now to become technical and get down to details. There is a lot of transformation happening all over the world due to climate change and hence, it is important to define the concept with some critical changes.”
