The Swedish Exhibition and Congress Center (SECC) in Goteborg has reported its highest visitor number since 2005, after welcoming 1.4m guests. The centre was home to 47 fairs and exhibitions in 2014, including 19 organised by the venue.
SECC president and chief executive Carin Kindbom said the figure was an 11 per cent increase on 2013.
“We have a strong trade fair programme, very good hotel capacity and an excellent order situation,” Kindbom added. “Our ambition is to establish ourselves as a billion kronor business in 2015.”
In December 2014, the centre unveiled a third hotel tower, boosting its capacity to 1200 rooms. It also opened a new show area, The Theatre.
”It is gratifying that we have succeeded in delivering record sales, while completing our largest capital investment in the group’s history,” Kindbom said.
Kindbom added that 2014 was expected to be a weaker year for the venue’s own shows, in terms of trade fair cycle and sales, however visitor numbers remained relatively stable at 262,560, up one per cent from the previous year.
The 30th Goteborg Book Fair was one of the largest events staged at the venue, attracting more than 96,000 visitors and 820 exhibitors.
Meanwhile travel and leisure events also proved popular, with the Boat Fair welcoming 61,523 visitors aboard and travel fair TUR attracting 28,827 visits.
