Jet2Villas has today revealed the lengths that British holidaymakers will go to recreate a home from home when on holiday, with the average holidaymaker taking three home comforts with them and one in five (20%) packing five creature comforts or more.
With two thirds (66%) bringing some sort of home comfort on holiday with them, the research* shows some of the steps we take to have a sense of home when away. The poll shows:
Becky Burton, a fashion worker, aged 27 from Harrogate, certainly doesn’t pack light when she’s on holiday, ensuring tea bags, her favourite teapot, dressing gown and slippers are all in tow – even if she’s heading to warmer climes.
Becky says: “I find it absolutely impossible to travel light. I have to have as many of my home comforts with me as possible and these do end up taking up most of the space of my case, meaning there is little left for my clothes!
“My absolute essentials are slippers, dressing gown, pillow, tea bags, ketchup and brown sauce, my own cutlery, a bowl and plate, teapot and mug and a framed photograph.
“My family and friends always laugh at me when I unpack my own set of crockery – I just like it to feel as much like home as possible and I like to know where it has been!”
The survey also asked what aspects of home Britons would take with them on holiday if they could. Their own bed (56%), the privacy of their home (40%), their TV (30%) and their car (25%) top the list. With a favourite home-cooked meal also on the list of things people would take with them, 15% say they overcome this by enjoying a roast dinner on a Sunday when on holiday.
With Britons reporting privacy as critical when getting away from it all, the survey looked at the reasons for this and found that 50% have bumped into someone they know on holiday, with half of those taking deliberate steps to physically avoid them. One in four (25%) have bumped into a friend on holiday and one in ten (10%) have even bumped into a work colleague.
The research is published by Jet2holidays as it launches Jet2Villas, a brand new villa offer with hundreds of properties on sale. The new proposition offers customers privacy and the freedom of a villa, with all the benefits of a package holiday, and even car-hire included for those that wish they could take the car on holiday with them.
Through a brand new dedicated website at Jet2Villas.com, the launch means that customers can now access these great value villa holidays wrapped up in one package with flights, villa and car hire included for the company’s low £60 per person deposit.
Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: “We recognise that our customers like to enjoy certain home comforts, in addition to switching off and getting away from it all when they are on their well-deserved holidays. Our new Jet2Villas proposition caters for holidaymakers in that it offers privacy, freedom and car hire with all the added benefits of a package holiday included too. Our new villas product really chimes with this research so although customers cannot take their own beds on holiday with them, the quality and comfort of our villa holidays mean that they will not miss them anyway.”
