An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck southwestern Japan on a late Wednesday evening, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The seismic event occurred in the channel that separates the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku, approximately 18 kilometers west of Uwajima at a depth of 25 kilometers.

The strongest earthquake to strike Taiwan in 25 years occurred, sending shockwaves through the self-governing nation and prompting tsunami warnings to Japan and the Philippines. Thankfully, there was no serious harm or fatalities as a result of these warnings being withdrawn as the threat subsided.

More than 60 people were injured, including those who fell down in the rain or were hit by shards of glass, according to Japanese media reports.
