Taiwan issued a yellow alert on Monday to its citizens for travel to Bangkok and its surrounding areas. This urges Taiwanese nationals to think twice about visiting the Thai capital in the midst of anti-government protests in Thailand.
Ministry spokeswoman Anna Kao said, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is urging Taiwanese nationals planning to visit Bangkok for business or pleasure to be particularly careful and pay attention to their personal safety. The higher-level travel alert came as anti-government protesters in Bangkok tried to storm the prime minister’s office. Taiwan has already issued a “gray” travel alert for Thailand since early last month.
Kao also urged Taiwanese nationals not to visit crowded areas in Bangkok and avoid wearing yellow and red shirts, as there have been fights between pro-government “Red Shirt” supporters and “Yellow Shirt” anti-government demonstrators.
