There has been numerous delays in the airport expansion project, due to complicated design and poor budget management.

Until a design review is completed in February the start of the project might have to be postponed according to a TIAC Chairman Wang Ming-teh.

Ahe airport saw a record high 46.53 million visits last year compared with 44.88 million in 2018 and in 2020 it is estimated that there will be 48.56 million airport visits. The  passenger volume will continuing to grow at a rate of 2 million per year.
