Taiwan_Taichung_AirportNEC Corporation and NEC Taiwan have been selected by Taiwan’s Air Navigation and Weather Services (ANWS) to provide air traffic control radars at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and Taichung airport.

This move by Taiwan is in line with its plan to provide safe, comfortable and efficient flight services as the country moves towards becoming a key player in air transportation in the Asia Pacific region.

The air traffic control radars selected by Taiwan’s ANWS includes airport surveillance radar and secondary surveillance radar, which are based on advanced NEC technologies.

The airport surveillance radar accurately detects the nearby aircraft by employing the latest semiconductor circuit technologies and signal processing technologies to eliminate the disturbance caused by ground and meteorological factors.

It identifies the bearing and distance of aircraft by radiating radio waves from ground stations then receiving reflected waves from the aircraft.

The secondary surveillance radar is capable of providing information about the nearby aircraft even in crowded airspace, while strengthening the efficiency of air traffic control services and contributing to overall safety.

Secondary surveillance radars use the information received from the avionics of the aircraft in order to identify the bearing and distance, as well as flight information such as altitude and identification codes of an aircraft.

Taiwan’s ANWS is responsible for providing flight information, air traffic control, aeronautical tele-communication, and aeronautical meteorological services. It is improving the quality and competitiveness of traffic services in order to address growing number of flights.

The ANWS is currently strengthening essential functions that include navigation, surveillance and air traffic management also it had introduced an automated air traffic control system in 2011.
