tajamar-cancunThe beautiful Tajamar mangroves, in Cancún, Mexico occupying 57 hectares lining the coast  was enjoyed by tourists for years until recently when this amazing prize of nature was reduced to stumps.

On the 16 January in the middle of the night developers who are hoping to build a new resort there– ‘Malecón Tajamar’ – tore down the grooves at midnight .The last trace of the wetland enjoyed by tourists in Cancun remains no more.

This was done with the knowledge of local authorities who did nothing to prevent this act. Now they are denying the existence of the mangrove in that area.

There was protest throughout Mexico after the information became public. Thousands of people across Mexico stood with the community protesters in outrage.

Greenpeace Mexico an alley organisation has taken the matter to court. A moratorium for the Tajamar project has been ordered by the judge.
