The authorities would display a variety of photos that have been handpicked from the SLA photo contest that had been conducted recently. Known as ‘Celebrating Places and Memories’, this photo contest has been able to attract 650 entries in Instagram and Open categories. The best of these photos would be exhibited, said the SLA.
Visitors would be permitted to enjoy a photo tour while they are inside this railway station on 9th August.
The authorities have also been motivating members of the public to submit their sketches of this iconic monument and leave them at the ticketing counter of TPRS. These photos would be displayed on the next open house.
However, people should include their names and contact details at the back of their sketches. And, the photos would be returned to the participants only after they request for them.
The railway station was declared a national monument in the year 2011. Since February last year, the monument started welcoming visitors. Since that time, about 1,00,000 people have visited this railway station.
And, since that point of time, this monument has been a popular nerve centre for hosting fashion shows, dance performances, art exhibitions, community and corporate events. Of late, an outdoor movie has also been screened at this area.
When this station had been built, it had been designed in a way so as to make way for the longest mail trains. The walls of this unique station are beautified with the mural paintings that have been designed by William Rowe. The murals display the rubber tapping and tin mining activities that were quite crucial at that point of time.
