airberlin groupThis summer, airberlin flies more often than ever before to its top destination, Majorca. airberlin will connect 23 departure airports in Germany, Austria and Switzerland with the popular Balearic island up to 500 times a week, an increase of up to 100 weekly flights compared to last summer. Overall, airberlin will operate around 10,000 flights to Majorca from May to September. Of these, 83 % are from Germany and around 17 % are made up of flights from Austria and Switzerland.

“airberlin has been closely linked with Majorca for 37 years and has continuously expanded its flights to the Balearic island during that time. Strong demand this summer has again led us to expand the number of services to the holiday island from our core markets of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. No other airline flies to the island as frequently. With an attractive, year-round flight schedule, we have also been the leading airline at Europe’s largest holiday airport for twelve years in a row. We want to expand our strong position in future, and to continue to affirm the importance of Majorca for our network strategy”, says Julio Rodriguez, Chief Commercial Officer airberlin.

The first airberlin flight from Berlin to Palma de Majorca was a Boeing 707 that took off on April 28, 1979. From 1998, airberlin introduced the now-familiar Majorca shuttle, and thus was the first airline to offer regular non-stop flights from numerous smaller German airports to the Germans’ favourite island. In total, airberlin has carried 87 million passengers to Majorca, and its year-round, high-frequency flight schedule has become a significant economic factor for tourism on the island.

Today, airberlin flies non-stop to Palma de Majorca from the following cities: Berlin, Dusseldorf, Dresden, Frankfurt/Main, Friedrichshafen, Hamburg, Hanover, Karlsruhe, Cologne/Bonn, Leipzig, Münster, Munich, Nuremberg, Paderborn, Saarbrucken and Stuttgart. In Austria, the airberlin subsidiary NIKI flies from Graz, Innsbruck, Linz and Vienna to Majorca, and airberlin also flies non-stop from Basel and Zurich in Switzerland.
