The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is planning to transform the eastern provinces into sought-after tourist destinations with a special emphasis on business travelers and big spenders. The TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn said that the Thai government is promoting the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) as high-tech industrial area and has aims of developing Chon Buri, Rayong, and Chachoengsao into internationally famed tourist destinations.
To quote Mr. Yuthasak, “People coming here to work or visit should be able to explore the local culture. Unique communities, bustling markets, quaint home stays, fishing excursions, and culinary experiences will serve as the main magnets to the region.”
The eastern region has a thriving tourism industry, but tourism authorities want to take the area to the next level. It is already a transportation and trade hub, and also a well-established manufacturing centre for the petrochemical, automobile, and electronic industries. The area already has a good network of airlines, and moving forward, a high-speed train system will further improve travel in the region and facilitate travel.
