The airport authorities of Portugal and Spain said that a flight of American Airlines that was travelling from New York to Barcelona had to make an emergency landing in the region of northwest Portugal.
This was due to the fact that the aircraft was facing some technical issues.
Airport authorities told the media that the incident had taken place when the pilot of Flight AAL666 had requested for a clearance of emergency landing. Thereafter, the plane had landed safely in Porto without any further incident.
The plane was carrying 151 passengers and eight crew members and it was a Boring- 767-300 aircraft.
All of them had to be accommodated inside hotels. The plane was then inspected. But, it was not cleared to continue on its way to Barcelona.
Later on Sunday night, American Airlines chartered a flight through TAP, a Portuguese airline with an aim to help the passengers travel to Barcelona. However, it is yet to be clear as to what kind of technical problems had prompted the emergency landing.
