Nearly 1.2 million tourists from China had visited Thailand in February marking a 51% rise from the same period last year as per a senior government official who mentioned this on Wednesday.
Pongpanu Svetarundra who is the undersecretary of Tourism and Sports Ministry mentioned at a press conference that Chinese travellers had accounted for the highest number of tourists to Thailand last month particularly during the Chinese New Year.
Last month had witnessed the number of foreign tourists to Thailand reaching 3.5 million marking an increase of 19.33% as compared to the same period last year, according to Pongpanu.
A majority of them had arrived from East Asia, followed by South Asia, America, the Middle East, Africa, Oceania and Europe.
They had generated about 195.26 billion baht that equals to nearly 610 million U.S. dollars in tourism-related income last month, up 23.78% from the corresponding period last year.
