On this Wednesday and Thursday, Arief Yahya, Tourism Minister of Indonesia organized a bilateral meeting with Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Minister on the sidelines of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) 2017 Global Summit, which took place in Bangkok.
However, Wattanavrangkul appreciated Mobile Positioning Data (MPD) system fixed at the gates of the meeting to track overseas visitors. To quote Arief, ‘what’s important about MDP is the customer data, from which we can get information about their travel habits and thus learn how to create a tourism promotional package tailored to their preferences.’
Airbnb’s digital revolution was discussed at the meeting and considered one of the crucial elements that are changing modern hotel industry. It was described as “unregistered accommodation,” because everything is done via online with help of an app that is readily available at any app store.
The concept of Digital Market Place called Indonesia Tourism Xchange (ITX) was launched by the ministry of Indonesia to accommodate all types of businesses related to the tourism industry, highlighting the 3a’s of the sector: Attraction, Access and Accommodation.
Another important topic discussed at the meeting include opening of a new route from Thailand to Solo, which Thai Lion Air has shown green signal to go ahead with the project.
