Travellers looking to pack in retail therapy alongside beachside adventures, hill-station escapades, cultural exploration and gourmet feasts in Thailand are in for a big treat! The Amazing Thailand Grand Sale starts June 15 and carries on until August 15, allowing
shoppers a world of discounts across goods and services: department stores, restaurants, hotels & resorts, car rental and spas will offer discounts between starting at 10% and up to an amazing 80%.
The Amazing Thailand Grand Sale (ATGS) is an annual affair.
This year it is expected to bring together over 80,000 people and 15,000 shopping options across Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Udon Thani & Hat Yai. TAT
estimates that tourist spending on shopping via credit cards alone will grow by 20% over last year.
Soraya Homchuen, director, Tourism Authority of Thailand – Mumbai office says, “Travellers and shoppers will find it difficult to not spot the iconic red bag sign (that
identifies that the shop sporting it is taking part in the ATGS). You will even see the sign atop little boutiques down little-known by-lanes.”
Visitors will be able to pick up the ATGS Privilege Map upon arrival at the TAT counters at any of the international airports. At the main gateway Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport, the TAT information counter is located on the arrival concourse at Gate 3.
The website www.thailandshoppingparadise.com includes a Shopping Tips feature to help visitors get better deals, understand the VAT refund process and avoid buying sub- standard products. A special section has also been created to promote the locally-made “OTOP” products, income from which goes a long way towards boosting rural income and supporting local artisans.
To help travellers maximize their use of discounts and far beyond just shopping, TAT has also developed a series of special itineraries for Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Pattaya. Special packages are also being offered for golfers including savings of 30% at courses around Bangkok, savings of 50% at courses around Pattaya, a flat 1,000 baht green fee at 10 Golf courses in Hua Hin, and a range of discounts on green fees, accommodation, food and spas at courses around Chiang Mai.
