In 2016, travel and tourism industry contributed more than Bt2.9 trillion to Thailand GDP which accounted 20.6 percent of the total GDP. Besides, more than 15 percent of the jobs were supported by the travel sector last year with a total of 5.7 million opportunities. The report of the Visitor Exports shows that the amount grew by 13 percent generating Bt 1.9 trillion.
Total investment in tourism sector grew to Bt245.5 billion which is tantamount to 7.1 per cent of all investment in the country. Not only inbound figures were enhanced by this investment, but Thailand’s outbound expenditure grew by 10.7 per cent as well bringing to the forefront that the country is not only an amazing country in itself but overseas travelers are finding it equally fascinating!
The total contribution to the Thai economy by the tourism sector is expected to grow by 6.9 per cent and to rise by 6.5 per cent per year on average in the coming decade to |Bt5.9 trillion, which would |represent nearly a third of GDP.
Additionally, the number of jobs in travel and tourism sector is also expected to rise by 6.9 per cent in 2017 to 6.1 million and rise by 4.6 per cent per year to 9.6 million jobs by |2027 (24.9 per cent of the total number of jobs).
