Germany has become one of the main markets in which Costa del Sol Tourism, through its Golf sector, aims to have a stronger presence. It is with good reason that the Costa del Sol has been declared the Golf destination for Germany during 2016. The quality of what it has to offer stands out amongst numerous other factors including the large number of golfing events in the German market this year. The German PGA.

For this reason, between 14 and 16 June, Costa del Sol Tourism has organised Costa del Sol Golf Woche. This is a series of golf days that have taken place in the German cities of Munich, Dusseldorf and Hamburg.

The Costa del Sol Golf Woche event has been made possible thanks to the collaboration and support of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation (RFGA) and the Spanish Tourism Office in Munich. The director of this office, Alvaro Blanco, attended the golf day held in Munich, supporting the event promoted by Costa del Sol Tourism.

The event has brought together around ninety German professional golfing specialists. Golf is an extremely popular sport in this country. In addition, there has been no shortage of tour operators, travel agents or representatives of the PGA (the German Professional Golfers’ Association), with high calibre professional engagements.

During the three day event each of the three cities hosted joint breakfasts for delegations from the Spanish Tourism Office in Germany and the RFGA. The breakfasts were followed by a networking meeting and each day ended with a dinner.

The German event was attended by Costa del Sol entrepreneurs. Tryp Estepona Valle Romano Golf, Alhaurín Golf, Baviera Golf, Hotel Meliá Marbella Banús, La Cala Resort and Iberostar have participated alongside Costa del Sol Tourism in the three days of action to promote Málaga province in Germany.

All the institutions involved positively evaluate the development of Costa del Sol Golf Woche. Arturo Bernal, the general director of Costa del Sol Tourism, stated how ‘in addition to promoting the destination itself, the event also benefited from a specific presentation by the Golf sector, and the magnificent installations that the province has on offer.’

The Costa Del Sol is therefore consolidating its commitment to promoting its tourism offer in Germany. In fact, there are multiple factors that make the Costa del Sol the Golf destination for 2016.

There are good flight connections together with a considerable number of golf courses and hotels, but it is the combination of golf and an authentic destination offering cultural and culinary attractions, above all, that makes the Costa del Golf a perfect and unique place to visit.

German tourism in the Costa del Sol goes from strength to strength. In the first months of 2016 Málaga-Costa del Sol airport has registered around 270,000 arrivals from the different German airports.

If these figures are compared with those from the period January to May 2015, it can be seen that this year the German market has experienced a significant growth in arrivals of 14.1%, which means 33,414 more passengers.
