The Ministry of tourism has organized a workshop on geographic information systems and applications such as google earth and GPS devices. The workshop was held through the Directorate General of Planning, Follow up and Information on the 9th and 10th of May 2016 and aimed to increase the skill and capabilities of tourism management professionals, as this will help these professionals in using applications such as google earth to better perform and provide a better experience. Theyalso discussed the standards laid by the ministry to assess and evaluate the lands allotted for tourism.
Applications such as google earth and devices like the Global Positioning System (GPS) are essential technologies to the tourism sector; as they provide information in a precise and easy manner, the systems also provide their users geographically relevant information.
Through the Ministry’s training of the tourism management professionals, the ministry aims to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of global positioning systems and update the coordinates and information, making the ability to locate an attraction a much simpler task for tourists.
The workshop has targeted tourism management professionals across the different provinces of the Sultanate, opening different areas of opportunity to the tourism sector.
