A330-20 would carry out this first direct flight route that would start from Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang Province, with a mid way halt at Beijing before heading to Lisbon.
The journey would start from July 25. At present, there are three consecutive flights between Portugal and China per week.
In the meantime, Beijing Capital Airlines will start the new flight route from Beijing to Macao. Antonio Costa, the Portuguese Prime Minister explained that the introduction of the first direct flight route between Portugal and China is important as it would benefit both the countries and part of the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China in 2013.
He added that this initiation will endorse tourism and trade between Portugal and China and the cultural communication between the people of the two nations.
Costa explained that the new flight route will reinforce Portugal as a bridge between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries as well. It will make the journey between China, Brazil and Africa seamless.
The launch of this flight route was due to the efforts made by the governments of the two countries which will eventually encourage tourism in the two countries. In 2016, more than 200,000 Chinese tourist entered Portugal as per the records.
