As per the Ministry of Transportation and Communications or MOTC, the initial three months of 2017 witnessed a tremendous growth in tourism exchanges between the two countries like Japan and Taiwan. Airline and cruise operators of both the nations noticed growing number of passengers traveling from the said countries.
According to the MOTC statistics, airlines offering services between Taiwan and Japan showed a record number of 3.12 million passengers. This symbolized passenger increase of 1.5 percent in comparison to 2016. The routes were comparatively busy this year in comparison to the routes between Taiwan and Hong Kong, which witnessed an increase of 2.09 million passengers, down 6.8 percent last year.
For the meantime, the total number of travelers between Taiwan and South Korea violated the 1 million mark to reach 1.02 million for the first time, up 33.1 percent year-on-year.
With tremendous growth in cruise tourism in recent times, the number of cruise passengers traveling between Taiwan and Japan was 148,000, up 41.2 percent annually. The route connecting Keelung with Japan in the first three months witnessed highest number of passengers at 104,000 among all other international cruise lines. This accounts for an up 34 percent year-on-year, for 72 percent of the total.
