The conference was impressive for its global reach, with over 1,500 delegates, with close to 150 countries in attendance. The year 2017 was voted by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism Development.
The Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett deserves kudos for bringing this once in a lifetime conference to Jamaican shores. Key areas highlighted in the conference were social inclusiveness, employment and poverty reduction; cultural values, diversity and heritage; environment protection and climate change, and peace and security.
