The November UNWTO global conference held special status for Jamaican tourism

jamaican-tourism-ministerNovember 27 – 29, 2017 was a special date in Jamaica’s development history when the country hosted the UNWTO global conference on sustainable tourism at the Montego Bay Conference Centre.

 
The conference was impressive for its global reach, with over 1,500 delegates, with close to 150 countries in attendance. The year 2017 was voted by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism Development.

 
The Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett deserves kudos for bringing this once in a lifetime conference to Jamaican shores. Key areas highlighted in the conference were social inclusiveness, employment and poverty reduction; cultural values, diversity and heritage; environment protection and climate change, and peace and security.
